How to apply

  1. Call 15100, the national legal aid helpline, or apply online on the NALSA website.
  2. Or visit the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) office at your district court, or the Taluk Legal Services Committee at your taluka court. For a High Court or Supreme Court case, contact that court's Legal Services Committee.
  3. Take your ID, any court papers, and proof of the category you belong to (for example a caste certificate, disability certificate or income certificate). A simple sworn statement of income is usually accepted.

Lok Adalats, also run by Legal Services Authorities, settle disputes for free and their awards are final. See all free legal aid services.

This checker is a guide. The Legal Services Authority decides each application. Income limits differ between states and change from time to time, so check the current limit with your DLSA.
